Crete, Greece | Part 2

Hey there,

Looking out of the window at the minute, the rain is lashing down and the sky is pretty grey and dull. The weather for the past few days has made me nostalgic about the weather in Greece, the constant sun and heat on your back so I decided to upload Part II of my holiday photos.

A few days after visiting the Old Town of Malia, we went on a day trip to the island of Spinalonga, or the Island of Tears as it is sometimes called. The island was ruled for centuries by different governments and nations, but in more recent history, it was used as a leper colony. The history of the island is quite sad as we found out on the tour and many areas of the community that the lepers made are now barely recognisable. The island itself is very beautiful, located just off the coast of mainland Crete. As you can see from the photos above, the scenery is stunning and the boat journey to the island gives some great photo opportunities. One thing I noticed from the boat was the colour of the sea. Parts of the sea were a deep royal blue and it didn't look like water but rather a soft texture. Other parts were turquoise and some of it was completely transparent! The views from the island were breathtaking and I would recommend a trip to Spinalonga for anyone looking for an interesting day out in Crete!

On the last morning that we were there, after coming in from a night out and getting about an hours sleep, myself and my boyfriend went down to the beach to watch the sunrise. Seeing the beach in the morning, so peaceful with the waves gently crashing against the sand, it was extremely calming. The colours in the sky were lovely purple, red and blue and as the sun gradually rose into the sky, the colours all faded as the magnificent golden glow took over the whole beach! There's just something about being awake for the sunrise that feels so good!

Thank you for reading this post, if you have done a similar post about your holiday please link me because I absolutely love seeing different places across the world!!
